Correcting pictures using software tools is a very common practice nowadays. So, a program like PT Portrait, intended to retouch people´s faces in a photograph, always comes in handy. A defining characteristic of this tool is simplicity as its developers have managed to turn a process that usually takes a lot of time, expertise and effort into a quick and easy one.

The application has a very pleasant graphical user interface. Besides, you’ll receive help in a form of a wizard. So, if you follow the instructions provided at each step, which are mainly selecting specific points of the face, you can have decent instant results without difficulty. Luckily, the program can automatically adjust correction levels to the particularities of the source picture. However, if you feel confident enough and are willing to have more personalized results, you can explore some of the other features available. This way, you can modify the screen mask and adjust other levels to hide pores, wrinkles and eye bags. You are also allowed to whiten the teeth, slim the jaw, change eye color, modify the nose and even make someone smile, among many other things. Fortunately, you can always compare the before and after views, either side by side or by pressing a button.

In general, I’m quite impressed by how easy PT Portrait makes retouching someone’s face in a photograph. However, it’s necessary to point out that this application is no match for other more professional tools, such as Photoshop (which even has a verb created after). In this regard, I regret the absence of brush-like tools, like the Healing Brush and the Clone tool. The good news is that PT Portrait can be installed as a plugin in Photoshop. This way you’ll be benefiting from the advantages of both applications.
